Week 3 Part A.
Websites that need some help:
1. http://www.roverp6cars.com/
When check out this website, right off the bat it looked
like a mess. You really don’t know where to look first. The links that they
have available, only lead you to an abundance of more overwhelming information.
You have no idea what their brand logo is, and furthermore, you really don’t
know what their business is trying to sell or promote. There is only 1 link to
a social media account and it was a little difficult to find. Although the
website uses different colors in an attempt to grab attention, it does not flow
well at all.
When visiting this website, it felt like I stepped into a
time machine that took you back to 1997. Overall, the website is very hard to
navigate. This website could improve by creating a brand logo, creating better
placement and up-to-date logo of social media link(s), They can have less
pictures flanking the page, and create a clean simple layout with frequently desired
quick access. Also, a link to an about who we are section would be nice.
This website does not grab one’s attention well at all. It
feels like you are reading a 10 page essay about extremely boring computer
stuff. All of the font sizes used are very close, making it hard to
differentiate headings or main titles. It took at least 7 page scrolls to get
to the bottom of the first page of the website. There is very little organization,
and the links lead to more overwhelming information. This company has no links
for social media platforms that I could see and over all this website needs a
lot of work.
Some ideas are that pulldown menus are needed for fast
navigation to important points. Eye catching pictures and videos are needed,
and would be beneficial for these to tell a story so that a person does not
have to read lengthy paragraphs to understand what this website is try to
accomplish. This website is not well designed at all. It is mind boggling that
this website was last updated less than 2 months ago.
Websites that do well:
1. http://www.toyota.com/
This website immediately catches the eye with high quality
videos of new cars. The colors make it pop, and they have well organized links
at the bottom of the page. They use crisp clean social media links, they give an
FAQ section, popular customer needs at top right pull down menu, and give you
the option to stay informed and up to date with email subscription. If you are
looking to buy a new car, you want to see all that these cars have to offer,
which is accomplished by videos and car specs in your face.
2. http://apple.com/
Currently this website is unique, as they have chosen to put
a for Queen Elizabeth II. Very basic
options are provided so you can find what you want. On the pull down menu at
the top left, there is a search bar for key words. A list of all of there top
items for sale is provided, and at the bottom of the page there are links directed
towards specific types of customers – business, education, government,
healthcare etc. Apple offers so many products, but they make it is easy to find
what you are looking for. Surprisingly I did not see links to social media.
First impressions are most important. Good web designers will
use eye catching videos, well defined categories, and easy to use links to take
you exactly where you want to go. You do not want to be overwhelmed when you
first visit a company’s website. This exercise was very helpful. Exploring
through a well-designed website definitely helps determine the success of a
business, and when viewing good and bad web designs side by side, it is easy to
see the dramatic differences.
Hey Beau!
ReplyDeleteWe both picked the same websites that needed a lot of work. I think they were the obvious choices to pick. We also said similar things about those websites. I also agree with you on how important a first impression is. Great job man!
